For a short while I had a Yashicamat 124G in my possession before gifting it, and took it out for a few walks to make sure it was working, which I was happy to see it indeed was. Here, I’ll share the results of a roll of Fujifilm Acros 100.
The Yashicamat was really fun to use. It’s by no means light, but after having gotten used to my Mamiya RB67, it was like I was suddenly under the gravity of a much smaller planet or had myself shed pounds. I simply felt freer walking around with it, not weighed down like with the Mamiya.
I guess I’m drawing the comparison to the Mamiya RB67 despite the cameras being of a totally different type because they both have waist level viewfinders, making the experience of taking the picture very similar.
I kind of enjoy this way of taking pictures, peering down at a screen. That you get a screen to look at without any electronics feels a little magical, and how everything is mirrored makes everything a little disorienting in a way I find entertaining. It can feel incredibly clumsy at times, but in a fun way.
Anyway, here are some of the results from this roll. It was a dreary day at the end of winter, which is why I chose black and white film when heading out that day. I had only ever shot a roll or two of Acros before this, but it performed nicely here, I think.
Since a 120 roll won’t hold too many six by six negatives, I’ll share the whole roll.
